Hello Wally

The 30C is a cutter rig with the traditional layout (v-birth, head area, and main salon) while the 30B has the same layout of the 25D (Head forward instead of V-birth, main salon and quarter birth (i think)). Look at the layout of the 25D in the Cape Dory specifications section of this site to see the interior of the 25D.

Wally,

Having been Master of both at one time or another, here are the main differences:

The B model has a quarter berth, a right chart table and a "U" shaped galley. It does not have a "V" berth, in place of that is a LARGE head space. The Captains table is fixed in place in the center forward end of the salon.

The "C" model has a "V" berth, normal small head, normal salon, larboard side galley, no chart table, no quarter berth. The Captains table folds up and is stowed against the forward larboard bulkhead in the cabin.

Sail plan on both is the same. Maybe others can add details...Oh, and the CD-30C is FAST ! Your Humble servant.....

Actually, there is no such thing as a Cape Dory 30B. There is a Cape Dory 30C (B layout). The "C" stands for Cutter rig, to differentiate from a Cape Dory 30K (Ketch). The "B" merely describes a different interior layout which includes a quarter berth and a navigation station with a large head in the space which would otherwise be occupied by a "V" berth. I believe that all the "B" layout boats are in fact Cutter rigged, so they are properly called CD 30C.
