We'd welcome comments about the KVH Datascope, a combination handbearing compass and rangefinder. We'd especially like to know how the rangefinder works: do you need to know the size of the object being ranged? Or do you focus on it? Or...?

The link below will give you more info than I was able to find at the KVH site (www.kvh.com). Yes, the rangefinder uses known heights to do its work.
