Looking for the right pilot seat.
I have a Cape Dory 33, Ragtime, and at present we, my wife and I, use 2 boat cushions plus a Sport'a'Seat while steering. The problem is that this combo is about 9 inches in the air and it slides around too much. If you have to put up with this for 8 hours it's more than you want to handle. One height seats, such as molded foam, camel type, only fit one of us and are outrageously priced. $125
At the present I am trying to integrate a short legged (11 inch)folding beach chair by building a frame that will support the front side and give us two different heights. I'm open for proven suggestions.
Thanks

Re: pilot seat
Jim,
8 hours steering? On our 33 we have an autopilot and are adding a monitor vane. Why steer that long.

Re: pilot seat
My husband has a really nice fender board which fits on both lazarettes bridging the area behind the wheel. The fenders keep it from sliding and the fit is just perfect. Sometimes we add one of those wonderful new seats that hold any position you want. We got that at the Atlantic City boat show. This works for us because we get double uses out of the fenderboard. My hyusband revarnishes it over the winter and it looks really great.Jim Alexander wrote: Looking for the right pilot seat.

Re: pilot seat
My husband has a large fenderboard which he fits across the back of the boat on the two lazarettes. The size is perfect and it can't slide off. The fenders keep it from moving at all. Then, from time to time we put one of those wonderful seats that bend in any position on top for a back rest or we just lean against our Life Sling bag. We bought the seat at Atlantic City. The fender board is, of course, homemade. The board itself is quite thick and the fenders are small or midsize.
