Greetings All,
'Evening Light', 1981 CD33, was built with three potable water tanks (2 settee, 1 V-berth). I downloaded a manual from ~1983 that shows four tanks with the additional one under the quarterberth. Also some tank capacity (on CD33s & CD36s) was based on how the initial owner wanted to balance dry storage with PW water capacity. I believe 'Saragay' (CD33) and 'Journey’s End' (CD36) (built later) have three PW Tanks including the quarterberth tank.
I plan on adding a quarterberth tank.
The current questions are;
1. Anyone have the dimensions for the CD33 and/or CD36 quarterberth tank?
2. Anyone know definitively if the CD33 and CD36 quarterberth tanks are interchangeable?
Fair Winds,
Leo

CD33 vs CD36 quarterberth PW Tanks

Re: CD33 vs CD36 quarterberth PW Tanks
"Elysium", our 1984 CD33 has a V berth tank, starboard settee and quarterberth tanks. All are fiberglass. Unfortunately, I do not know the dimensions of the quarterberth tank. One question I would have is about trim. Will you be too far down in the stern if you use your V berth tank?Leo MacDonald CD33 wrote: Greetings All,

Leo,
Where's Evening Light's fuel tank? It has to be under one of those berths. Are you sure you've got room for another water tank?

Q-berth tanks
Leo,
The water tanks on S/V Patricia Louise (CD-36) are somewhat smaller than the space in which they sit. I can not imagine that there would be a problem fitting them in a 33. Are you in a hurry for this water tank? I have bought a plastic welder and intend to make tanks that fit the spaces better in order to maximize the tankage. If this plan works out my old tanks will be available. I plan to do the first tank this winter so I guess that I will not know if the tanks will be available for about a year.

Re: CD33 vs CD36 quarterberth PW Tanks
Greetings All,
Evening Light's fuel tank is aft of the engine on the Stbd side, inboard of the quarterberth and just outboard of the prop shaft.
The other 33s & 36s I've seen had some storage space even with a PW tank under the berths.
I'm not too concerned with the weight aft Stbd - the previous owner has reported a tendency to list to port. (This observation is supported by later CD33 production runs having a quarterberth PW tank and not a port settee PW tank.) And the additional 160 - 200 lbs. aft will be offset by the large volume of ‘stuff’ I’ll store under the V-berth. When 'Heather Ann' was loaded out for last summer's series of CDSOA / NE Fleet activities she was riding about 3 - 4 inches lower then 'normal'. The only thing we needed for two weeks was fuel and water AND we tossed a LOT of spoiled food from the 'icebox'. This year we may not need the water. (That said, 'Evening Light has a SHOWER!!)
I not in a real big rush. The goal is to support a 'CDSOA Bermuda 2003' run. (Currently 2 boats on the 'list', anyone else for 2003? - contact Mike Thorpe or me.)
The three potable water tanks (2 settee - 30 gal. ea. & V-berth - 24 gal.) hold 84 gal. I guess a quarterberth tanks would be ~20 - 25 gal.(??) Any CD33 owner know for sure?
