Bronze Cowl Vents...again !!!

Post by John Nuttall »

Hello !

Seems like this is a regular annual question on the board, but a "search" didn't turn up much..... (maybe it was the searchor)

Anyway other than a reference to Luke Anchors being a supplier of true bronze cowl vents, ABI was the only other mfg found by searching old messages.

Seems to me there have been several references to other suppliers of Bronze or Brass Cowl Vents here on "The Board" but I can't find them....

I have never been too thrilled by the quality of any of the ABI stuff. Can anyone provide some names of suppliers ?

Thanks,

I would also be interested in finding out where bronze dorades and cowls can be purchased. I bought the brass dorades from West Marine for my former CD28 and they looked great but expensive now that I have to buy two for my CD330. You mentioned Luke Anchors. What did you find there? They must not have a web address. I tried searching and got all sorts of biblical references to St. Luke.

Anyone know of a supplier? Maybe Santa will open her pursestrings for this pretty accessory!

John, Just recently I found a local maker for a bronze cowl vent. the unit base screws right on the dorade a little smaller in dia. than the plastic but fit just fine. you can detach the cowl and place a cap over hole. loosen set screw and rotate 360* I'll dig up the receipts for the maker. Cost was $75.00 for base and cowl. $10.00 for the cap.
this for a cd 30. I'll post again in next couple days. (Portland Oregon) Theres a few more frames left on a roll of film. I can scan and attach to email for photo of it. Ben

John,

Check out a site called marinershardware.com. I found it through an add in one of the glossy sailing rags. They have a full line of brass and stainless cowl vents (including nifty looking low profile versions). They are a little more expensive than the ABI's, but appear to have comparable features. However, a couple of notable exceptions, as far as I can tell, are that they will custom powder coat the interiors of the cowls in whatever colors your choose (for a small extra fee). In addition, the bases apparently have a set screw so you can keep the the cowls from rotating on their own (unlikely under most conditions, but I like the idea).

They ain't bronze, but they look nice.

Try Mariner's Hardware

John,

<a href="http://marinershardware.com/ProdCowl-ve ... >Mariner's Hardware</a> advertizes "Highly Polished cast stainless steel and bronze cowl vents available in 3" and 4" sizes." I saw their ad in Latitudes & Attitudes but I'm unfamiliar with their products.
