Davis Mega Light...Phooey!!!
Someone, a short time back on this board, was singing the praises of the makers of Davis Mega Light. I take issue with that! I have one which was working fine. Suddenly it stopped working. I found the problem to be a burned out bulb. Having difficulty locating one I asked Davis to send me one. They responded by asking for a credit card number. I have no problem with paying for replacement parts, but I felt that $8.95 plus $5.00 for shipping and handling was a little much!!! We're talking about a bulb that is just like a flashlight bulb only 12 volts. Also, my light has seen limited service; having been used no more than six times. How's that for customer service? I think I'll try a little harder to locate one locally!

The bulbs are expensive at West Marine, too. They claim a life of 1000s of hours, but I had the same experience you did. The bulb blew after about 48 hours of use. Not impressive.

That was me. Sorry your experience wasn't as good as mine. How long ago was that? You might try calling again assuming you still want to use the product. The fellow I talked to was very nice. I received the new light 3 days later, no charge.Richard Feffer wrote: Someone, a short time back on this board, was singing the praises of the makers of Davis Mega Light.
I've had no problem with bulbs. I think we've got about 6 or 700 hours on ours.

Another Opinion
I've been using the Mega Light for a few seasons now, and I'm pretty happy with it. Mine came with two bulbs, one brighter higher amperage bulb, and the low amp bulb installed. It works as advertised and I'm yet to have any problems.

My first light burned out after only several uses, but it was replaced by Davis and the new one has worked all season. That is I replaced the whole unit, since it was defective and caused the early burnout.Richard Feffer wrote: Someone, a short time back on this board, was singing the praises of the makers of Davis Mega Light. Interesting. The new unit they sent me had a completely different circuit board, so it's obvious it was redesigned.Jerry Axler wrote: That is I replaced the whole unit, since it was defective and caused the early burnout.
Re: Davis Mega Light...Phooey!!!
I have had one of these lights for a couple of years, and have
had no problem with it. We have used it overnight about 30 times or so.
Here is a relevant question. Is this light legal for an anchor light?
Or does the light have to be specially Coast Guard approved?

Re: Davis Mega Light...Phooey!!!
If the Davis light uses a halogen bulb, be absolutely certian that you do not handle the glass bulb with bare fingers. The oils in your fingers will cause the bulb to crack and fail as it heats up. Handle these bulbs with a rag or paper towel.
