CDI Furler

Does anyone have any experience with and/or opinion on CDI furlers. I am considering one for our CD 25.

Thanks

Hi Mike:

The first cruising boat I owned was a Compac 16 with a CDI furler. It worked real well...very simple and seemed indestructable. Very good furler for the money, but probably not in the same league as Harken or Schaefer equipment (not priced that way either). I sail a CD27 now and didn't consider the CDI when buying my new furling genny...went with the Harken and real glad I did. My sailmaker was a dealer for both CDI and Harken, and he recommended the Harken for my boat (he also probably made more money). He advised that the CDI was great for smaller boats, but I know they make large systems as well. Your CD25 is sorta inbetween, so best to wait to hear from other CD25 sailors about what system works best for them. Good luck!

Mike,

My old 25D had a CDI flexible furler and a friend of mine with a Sabre 30 has one. They require no maintenance and are guaranteed for as long you own the boat. I never had any problems with it.

I've had mine for four years. Zero problems with it. And zero maintenance. It's a very simple system with very few parts.

A friend put one on his Catalina 30. Says it was the best decision he ever made, both about roller furling and CDI.

Mike:

When I bought my 75 "25" six years ago it came installed with the CDI flexible furling. Have had zero problesm with it. Only thing I do is wash out the barrel with fresh water after each sail. Highly recommend it.

Ironic the least expensive furler on the market is one of the best for small to medium size boats. I have a ball bearing model and never had a jam or problem of any sort after hundreds of cycles. Nice unit for trailer boats, easily controlled when stepping mast even with the genny installed. Simple unit with lifetime warranty. With the exception of installing a toggle, no other modification to the headstay was required. I have no regretts and would not hesitate to buy one again.
