'78 Cd28 Owners HELP!

Post by Bill »

I had posted an earlier message regarding placement of a holding tank under the V-berth but am still having problems. I have an opriginal Krackor 25 gallon (I think)water tank that is triangular sloping upward toward the bow and was made specifically for Cape Dory to sit forward under the v-berth. Aft of this tank under the v-berth I had a square six gallon holding tank which proved much to small. I assume this was the original configuration for all Cd 28's made in 1978???. I am trying to install a Holding Tank in place of the water tank. The problem is that I cannot find any HOLDING TANK that will come close to fitting the area meant for the water tank (I can do without the water for a while.) Has anyone else made this conversion? Is it possible to have a custom holding tank made if I sent them the water tank or give measurements? Thanks in advance for your input.

See the tanks on

Model A might do the job!

I chose to use model C which although smaller takes up less space.
I agree that at 9 galls it is small, but I rarely have a crowd on board.

VETUS makes flexible holding tanks -- even V-shaped, I think.

A group of us had Ronco Plastics make a new mold for the bow tank several months ago... it is the same shape and size. You can order a new tank from Ronco (www.roncoplasics.com)... it's a custom tank... ask for Scott. I think the mold number is B-486. The tank is made of 3/8" polyethylene (the Kracor tanks are 1/4") and Ronco will place the ports anywhere you want them. The cost was just under $100 plus shipping (I think about $50 was the max for those of us on the East Coast). This tank fits a number of the Cape Dories and Intrepids. I can e-mail you a diagram of the tank dimensions if you want.

These are quality tanks that can be used for either water or holding.

I have no ties with Ronco Plastics nor do I get any compensation for any tanks sold. I found them very pleasurable to do business with, they produced an excellant product, and even lowered our price when the cost of making the mold came in under the original estimate.

Search the archives for "holding tank" for info on the earlier discussion that prompted us to approach a new vendor.

Would appreciate current info on availability and costs if you call them.

With Mike's advice I installed the C model. Fits fine in the port locker area in the forward cabin. Works great for me, but I usually single-hand (the boat, that is). With a crowd, it needs to be emptied often (daily is not a bad idea).

"A" model is too large!

Post by Leo MacDonald »

Bill, Mike,

I had a CD30K with the a bow holding tank. It was around 24-25 gal. and fit the space like a glove.

I looked at the "A" model at;
http://www.sealandtechnology.com/sanx.html.
It holds 52 gal.!! I think this is way to large for the space.
I would recommend Bill S.'s posting above on a close to exact replacement :-)
