We purchased our 1985 25D last fall. I don't think it is my imagination that there has been a noticable increase in the vibration of the engine. I realize its a single cylendar engine and less balanced than multiple cylendar models but am becoming concerned. 2200 rpm is the point where smoothest operation appears. The next best is around 1100 rpm. Between 800 rpm (idle) and 1100 and from 1100 to 2200 the boat seems to rattle/vibrate too much. The cutting board on the stove rattles, the canvas on the dodger picks up the wave signal and so forth. So... how does one determine when too much vibration exists? Is there a formula to apply or a tool or devise to attach to the engine?
When and if the engine mounts need replacement doe you replace them in pairs (front/rear) or all four?
HELP!!!!
Jim
PS: The stuffing box appears to be suffering from the vibration and is now dripping at the rate of 1 drop per 10 secdonds. Aside from tightening it up (a job for the slight of build and young I fear) I worry that the engine vibration is the cause. It was repacked two seasons past.

Well I am sorry but I cant be of much help on the need to replace your engine mounts, BUT I did replace mine when I first bought her and I can tell you that I just called Torrensen Marine and ordered engine mounts for a 1GM. The mounts I got were not even close to what I had. So it took a few trys (and some research by the parts manager) before we got the correct parts. I have the part numbers on the boat if you decide (and if your mounts are the same) to replace them and need the part number or cant get them elsewhere let me know.
My engine runs rough until she reaches about 1100 rppm and after that she is smooth. Can you (or a helper) get in the port locker while the boat is at the slip or underway and have someone run up the rpm as you watch the shaft (and engine) to check mis-alignment or excessive movement of the engine?
If you need these part numbers let me know.
Good Luck
