I am considering removing the toerails on my CD28 to correct a suspected port side leak. I would probably refinish them in the shop before putting them back on the boat. Does anyone have experience with this job? Thanks in advance for the good advice that's always provided on this site.

I took them off my Ty with the objective of replacement, so I wasn't trying to preserve them. That said, they came off pretty easily, albeit in pieces - not exactly what you have in mind. They were so firmly bedded that they broke at the weak points created by the screw holes.
