Looking for color advice on non-skid.
Used a pressure washer on my deck of my CD27 (1980, hull 159) and some paint came off a couple areas of the moulded non-skid surface. The non-skid appears to be painted gray. Where the paint came off, it appears tan (sort of an orangish-brown, about the color of freshly sanded teak). I think I prefer the gray .
Question: What was the original color (gray or tan)?
Was the original color painted or molded into the gel coat?

Re: Non-skid color help
Scott;
My '30 has tan non-skid, and I don't believe any of my predecessors did any topside painting, so I assume it's factory. I do notice, however, that they've done some minor touch-up in a few places, which would lead me to think it's white gel-coat under there. I will say, the tan is pretty forgiving re shoe-scuffs and dirt and such. Even some smeared Cetol from my teak job doesn't look too horrible ground into the pattern.
Unless your pressure-wash job took a LOT of paint off, I wouldn't suggest a re-paint; from what I've heard it's a royal pain to do.
Good Luck! Geoff Safron

Re: Non-skid color help
My 1980 CD27, Hull No. 175 has tan non-skid areas of the deck
and cockpit. I think tan is the original color. Some
of the early CD27s had blue non=skid, but I have never seen grey.

Re: Non-skid color help
About a year ago, there was a series of messages on this board that reported the original non-skid to be tan-colored gel coat, not paint. You can use the search feature on this board to find the messages which will also ID the current supplier of the gel coat.Scott Ritchey wrote: Looking for color advice on non-skid.
