CD 30 with wooden nameplate out there?

Post by Jim Adams »

I need the measurements of the transom for the curvature of the wood. The guy that's making this is in Vancouver, BC (I'm in Houston, TX) and he can't find a CD30 to measure. Wants me to do it. Any measurements or ideas would be appreciated. Also, what are the measurements of the actual board and letter height? Thanks.

I think I would polish and wax the transom real well, then create a pattern of the transom area where the piece will go.

I believe that the following will work:
- a piece of cardboard, rectangular a an inch or two taller and wider than the wood block being used to create the final product.

- a piece of fiberglass cloth cut to match the cardboard.

- mix the resin and catalyst, paint the cardboard with it, lay on the cloth and saturate it.

- Press this mess on the transom where you want the nameplate to go. It'll harden in a few minutes.

- Mark the up and down, front and back, and send it to Canada.

Also, having prepped the cardboard and ready to apply it to the transom, you could also lay on a piece of wax paper. That could help avoid some clean up, but then you would for sure be holding it until it hardened.

Now your woodcarver will have an exact replica of your transom at the very point that you wish to mount the finished product. That will be better for him than having the boat there.

Good Luck, let us know how what you do and how it comes out.
