dorchester bay...not so good

Post by dan shaw »

hey folks!

well, a while ago i posted to the list how happy i was to have found free mooring space in dorchester outer bay...well...as usuall...it was too good to be entirely true....

the mooring space is indeed free, but since i put my boat there, ive have probably around $500 of things stolen from that parking lot, including one fiberglass dingy chained to a post, one cheap inflatable dingy tied up, and one new motorcycle helmet locked to my motorcycle in the lot. there is no facilites of anykind here, let alone any security. its just a trash strews rocky beach were people park there cars....

anyway, do you guys lock your boats to the mooring when not around. im starting to worry a little about the boat now...

ok thanks!

The boat is locked, but anyone who wants in will just crash through the boards. As for stealing the whole boat, even if you used wire from a mooring to the deck, all it would take is bolt cutters.

I'm not sure there's a good market for stolen sailboats and I've not known theft of boats to be a problem. Not the same for dinghies, outboards, etc.

By the way, does anyone know if stealing a documented vessel is a federal offense?

I believe the correct term is piracy.
