Typhoon weekender spinaker

Post by Richard Rosenberger »

I would like to purchase a spinaker for my typhoon hull 727. I think I am correct in assuming that the spinaker should fly ahead of the headstay. The foresail halyard exits the mast below the headstay so thats out. Where on a typhoon can you rig a spinaker halyard?. The manual I have only shows the size halyard and length.

You need to put a small padeye just above the jib halyard exit block (assuming you get a kite measured for the fractional rig) with a small block that you need for the spinaker halyard. While you are at it you also need a block lower down to rig the topping lift.

(And as long as you are working on the mast, a block at the top is good for the future if you want to use a gennaker.)

While we're on the subject of spinakers, how do you use one? I've got one, plus halyard and topping lift (line on mast is labeled "pole lift" but assume that's what it is). I have a 6' or 7' spruce pole that tapers and ends in a spring-loaded pin clip at each end. There is a metal bracket in the middle which seems to be an attachment point for a line. My question is "where does all of this stuff go?" Am I right in assuming that the pole goes between the lower corners of the spinaker, forward of the forestay, suspended by the pole lift, and that the spinaker sheets run to the turning blocks at the aft end of the cockpit? Or does the pole go somewhere else, like from the ring on the front of the mast (on a track) to only one corner of the sail?

Thanks much for the help.
John
