Does anyone have a Cape Dory 270 or 27 with a Dodger? We have a dodger and a bimini on our CD 270 which we really like. Unfortunately, we can't see over the dodger when we are sailing. Not a good situation. Tom is 6'tall and I am 5'3". I have to stand up and crouch to see through the window of the dodger, if I am at the helm, Tom has to stand. It will make it very difficult for us to take an extended trip of any kind.
Any ideas would be very helpful

I have a CD27 with a dodger and I have the same problem. I'm also 6 feet tall. I'll tell you the truth that on nice days I just collapse the dodger forward so it lays sort of flat on the cabin top. Can see much better that way. I've even taken to sitting on a single cushion (on top of the already placed cockpit cushions) to get an even better view of the bow of the boat over the cabin top. Its a little overkill I admit but I'm happier that way. One other thing about the dodger. The top of the dodger just about touches the boom. I sometimes feel the luff of the mainsail sets better with the dodger down, so the boom can ride lower and therefore the luff is more taught. How about yours?Kate and Tom wrote: Does anyone have a Cape Dory 270 or 27 with a Dodger? We have a dodger and a bimini on our CD 270 which we really like. What condition is your dodger? Is the front window cloudy, hard to see through? When the window on our dodger wore out, we had a new one sown in giving us a clear view. Also the front window rolls up which helps on warm days and also provides an unobstructed view.Kate and Tom wrote: Any ideas would be very helpful

Thanks for the idea. We will give it a try. We don't have seat cushions, yet. Perhaps that will be our next expenditure of boat units. We have tried sitting on a cushion. It helps Tom but unless I were to sit in the stern it wouldn't help me. I can see better if I hang out the side of the boat but it makes it difficult to reach the tiller.

Re: Seeing over the Dodger of a 270
Our dodger is in great shape. I think we are just the wrong height. I really do have to stand up and then I crouch forward to see through the window. I can't see over the top of the dodger at all. When I stand up straight I look right into the top of the dodger. We always keep the front window rolled up, too. It just doesn't help me.warren moore wrote: .: Does anyone have a Cape Dory 270 or 27 with a Dodger? We have a dodger and a bimini on our CD 270 which we really like.
