I have recently purchased a 72 CD 22. All of the teak needs
refinishing. But my question is about the back rests in the
cockpit. They are wood and covered with a layer of fiberglass.
The fiberglass is starting to lift off the wood.
Is the fiberglass covering the orginal condition or were
the back rests teak that can be restored.
Also the cabin way appears to be the same. Did someone cover
up the teak to reduce
maintenance?
I appreciate any input.
Thanks,
Larry

CD 22 restoring wood trim

Re: CD 22 restoring wood trim
Larry, I owned a 1980 CD22 for a couple of years, I can assure you
that the teak cockpit coaming was never covered with a fiber-
glass layer.
I had a dodger made for that boat and she really was a great
little pocket cruiser. While I love my CD30, currently for most
of my usage having my CD22 back again would probably make very
good sense...that CD22 was a very capable boat. I did some
coastal offshore work with her and always felt very
comfortable and confident in the boat.
Good luck with yours,

Re: CD 22 restoring wood trim
Again thanks for the input. My CD does also have a 9.9 HP outboard.Jon F larson wrote: Jon,
The fiberglass came off the coaming - not easily. I think the reason
why they were covered in the crack in the board that runs from back
about half way to the cabin. I think I can rpair the board so that
it is much more pleasing to look at.
I agree, know the boat does have an acre of teak.
