NEED INFO PLEASE!!!

Post by Jenntommy »

may purchase one in the near future. Am looking for any and all input regarding sale. It's a 19'
"deep keel" for $2500.00
Is this a good deal, any info will be greatly appreciated.
We both used to work on a 40' Cat in the Caribbean (US & BVI's). Now we would be sailing in
the Long Island Sound and the Atlantic.

It is probably not the answer you want, but it really depends. It depends on the condition of the boat, what the boat is already outfitted with, the age/#of hours on the engine, the condition of the sails, etc.

In arriving at a fair price, it really helps to look at other boats for sale, alot of other boats, and you will begin to get a general sense of what you can get for your money. Stop by the marinas/yacht brokers in your area and "kick some keels." Pick up a copy of Soundings magazine or a similar publication.

Hope this helps. Good Luck.

19' seems a bit smallish for the Atlantic; you might want to check out Guy's 25 (posting 7-3); it's a lot more boat for a mere $500 more.

I agree with Woody; as treasured as our CD's are, we all admit that it's a buyer's market. A little research will prove that there are LOTS of choices out there! Good Luck!

If the boat is in good shape, I think that $2500.00 is a good deal for a Ty. Sailing in the Atlantic -- maybe for the day but that's about it.

Strictly speaking $2500.00 is a bargain for Typhoon, which is actually 18'6". But as was posted, ya' gotta "kick some keels". A good place to gauge the market is on the net. Try Yachtworld.com, they generally have most Cape Dory listings. From there go to starboardtack.com. They have few listings but, have links to the several other major listing sites. Remember, no Cape Dorys have been built for over ten years. As great as they are, not all have been lovingly cared for. Examine all you see with care. HAVE A PROFESSIONAL MARINE SURVEY DONE. It will cost hundreds but save thousands. When you find the boat you think you want hire the surveyor, and go with him for the survey. It will be very educational. Continue to come back here with any questions. There are no dumb questions! Good luck.
