Lost the bottom batten for my mailsail while lowering it on Wednesday. Any help on what I need to get to replace it or what I need to ask for at the store, would be appreciated. Also is it OK to sail before I replace it?

I lost one overboard yesterday. <groan>
For a replacement, you only need to know how long the batten should be... see if one of the other battens is the right size, or measure the length of the pocket.
The sail probably won't set right without the batten... you need it to stiffen the roach.

Re: CD25 Mainsail Battens
Will,
I don't know the dimensions, but if you have the width, then you can easily cut stock batten material to length with a hacksaw. Of course, a bit of rounding and smoothing is then in order.
Sounds like you need better pockets or another means to keep those battens in place.

Re: CD25 Mainsail Battens
It was very windy and the sail did flap a bit more than usual, but a better way to keep the battens in sounds good. Any suggestions??: Will,

I use a short length of dental floss and sew the pocket straps, flaps, or envelope up with 4 or 5 stiches. The stiching doesn't have to be close or tight. Make it snug but easy to remove when bagging the sail if you need to.

Re: CD25 Mainsail Battens
When I bought my CD31 last month it had no battens in the mainsail. I searched around the Jersy shore and someone sent me to this very cool sail maker in Brick, NJ. I went to see him in his sail loft, and he sold me this incredibl18 or 20 ft. length of batten material. It was flexible enough to bend into an arc to git in the car. I cut the lengths with a hacksaw (in about 10 seconds). 5 minutes later the ends were sanded smooth and rounded. In they slipped and worked perfectly and I have a bunch of material left over. You could call this guy. I believe that he sold me the stuff at cost - he was just very helpful about it, but I had never met him before. His name is Mark Beaton (Beaton Sails, Inc.) 72 Beaton Road, Brick, NJ 08723. 732- 920-6638. Good luck. This worked really well for me.
