Nicro Solar Vent for forward hatch

Post by Ron Vallette »

We are thinking of installing a stainless Nicro solar vent on our "CD 30" to deal with odors in the hot summers on the Chesapeake. However, after seeing the cost of the CD hatches we are a little hesitant about making a hole in the hatch. Has anyone done this and would you do it again?

WE HAVE A CD30 AND SHE HAS A STAINLESS NICRO SOLAR VENT IN EACH HATCH.
THE MAIN HATCH VENT IS THE INTAKE AND THE FORECABIN HATCH VENT IS THE EXHAUST. THEY HAVE BEEN OPERATING FOR ABOUT 9 YEARS STRAIGHT, AND GOING AND GOING.NEVER A PROBLEM EXCEPT THE FLORIDA SUN HAS NOW ABOUT DEGRADED THE CLEAR PLASTIC ON THE SOLAR CELL TO THE POINT WHERE I THINK THERE TIME IS GOING TO BE UP SOON. THE MAIN VENT IS 4" AND THE FORECABIN VENT IS 3". THEY WORK QUITE WELL, ESPECIALLY IN REGARD TO MINIMIZING CONDENSATION AT NIGHT. THEY REALLY HELP IN STABILIZING THE CABIN TEMPERATURE AT NIGHT. CONDENSATION IS A MAJOR CONSIDERATION IN FLORIDA DUE TO OUR DAY/NIGHT TEMP DIFFERENTIAL NOT TO MENTION OUR HUMIDITY LEVELS IN THE SUMMER WHICH CREATES ANOTHER WHOLE SET OF PROBLEMS. THE WORST OF WHICH IS MILDEW. THE VENTS HELP WITH THAT AS WELL.
