How Would I clean the Water Muffler
Does a water muffler require maintenance? I imagine it could collect carbon which could restrict floe of exhaust. The muffler is not accessible on the 22D without removing the engine. I am wondering if my inability to get rpm’s above 27k could be due to soot blockage. The exhaust elbow is clean.

Hi Gary,
I have a CD 27 with a Yanmar YSB 8. I had the exhaust system apart last winter. A weld had failed on the water muffler, and I removed it to be rewelded. It had antifreeze in it because the engine had been winterized. Other than that, it was spotless inside. It is stainless steel and looks like it may have been custom fabricated. There are no manufacturers marks on it. So at least in this case there is no build up in the muffler.
