" HER STORY "
Pacalis - 1979 Cape Dory 28
I would like to share the story of the sailing vessel Pacalis. She was purchased new by a couple from Grand Rapids, Michigan. They had 3 children. It was a recommendation by a friend for the reason that it slept 5 comfortably. The vessel was in the water in 1980 and 1981 on White Lake, Michigan. Due to the fact that the 3 children were not fond of sailing, the vessel sat on the hard for the next 21 years! It was stored inside for much of that timeout did find its way into the elements due to the lack of storage space for a boat that was not being used, however, the sails and cushions were stored inside.
when I found the boat it sat outside for a period of about 3 years. The teak had weathered and of course turned gray. So over the next several years I began the love affair of restoring the teak and doing the electrical upgrades. By the way, when I purchased her she had no name and did not even have a compass. So my friend and I bought a hand held Boy Scout compass to find our way to her new home port of Suttons Bay, Michigan.
I purchased Pacalis in 2004 and sailed her until 2009. She was sailed more as a day sailer as we never really found the time to cruise and was never in heavy weather. My intention was to cruise her around the Great Lakes, I spent hundreds of dollars and countless hours of time outfitting her to do so.
The entire time of owning Pacalis, she was stored inside my barn during the off season. A custom trim-axle trailer with brakes on two axles was built specifically for Pacalis so that I had the ability of bringing her home and storing her in my barn. The spars on this boat look like new and as the pictures of the interior show, the cushions are in like new condition. They are the originals from 19791
THIS PARTICULAR CAPE DORY 28 is truly a once in a lifetime chance to own such a classic blue water sailing vessel. the asking price reflects the light use and inventory of sailing gear included.
