Cabin Table
Has anyone ever removed your cabin table? We are trying to remove ours and have the nuts and washers removed from under the sole but it still won't budge. The flat head screws are not releasing on the top. These were machine type bolts and seem to be all thread very long. I don't think it has ever been removed. Cape Dory 33 1981. Does anyone know how these were mounted? Are we dealing with any glue?
Re: Cabin Table
Yes, I removed the table from my CD 33 years ago for painting. I'm guessing that the problem you're having is due
to corrosion. The SS screws and aluminum table supports weld themselves together after years in a salt water
environment - the same as the SS screws on a mast if they weren't installed with lanocote or Tef-Gel, for instance.
You might try some PB blaster, let it soak in for a few hours, then try an impact wrench. If that doesn't work,
you might carefully try to heat the bolt with a propane torch, Being careful not to set fire to the cabin sole. Perhaps
a mini-torch might be better. After heating, try again with the impact wrench. Sometimes the heat will help break
the bond between the SS and the aluminum.
I would use some lanocote on the underside of the head and some on the upper thread when reinstalling. It's
cheaper than tef-gel and seems to work fine. - Jean
