Hi,
I'm trying to remove the teak toe-rails on my 1973 Typhoon. Does anyone know how to remove the stainless steel jib tracks that are on top of the toe-rails? I can not remove the toe-rails without first removing the tracks, because there are screws under the tracks that hold down the toe-rails. The track screws just spin in place. I tried putting wedges under the tracks to get the screws started, but that did not work. If anyone has any insights, it would greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You need to use a small socket up under the rail inside the cockpit locker where the bolt goes through. It is a little bit of a pain and you need to do it by feel as you back out the screw head on top.

I don't have a Ty but on my 36 the jib tracks were through bolted through the toe-rail, while beyond the tracks the toe-rail was screwed. Socket required under the dexk to turn/hold the jib track nuts.fpdima wrote:Hi,

Good luck.

Yes, I've replaced the genoa tracks on my 33 and it was tough. To get access to the nuts, you have to remove stuff and
even then you need a mirror to see what you're doing. I don't know if this is helpful in your case, but to reassemble
I've sometimes had to put a nut in the opening of a box wrench with masking tape on one side of the wrench to hold the
nut inside so I could position it and hopefully get the bolt to engage while someone topside turns that bolt.
Anyway, it will be a good opportunity to practice squeezing in tight spaces. - Jean

Thanks for the advice guys. I didn't realize the rails were held in with nuts - they were a bit hidden. After finding them, I managed to get the starboard side rail off. It was touch and go for a while because half of the screws were bent. But in the end I got it off. I'll be taking the port side rail off this weekend along with the toe rails. I really do feel it's worth the effort to do a proper refurbishing of the teak. Thanks again for all the help.
