Looking for advice/rudder question
New to me CD25, late 70’s vintage. Started sanding, and noticed this, right away. The rudder shaft is exposed, along the whole length. Maybe previous owner got a little aggressive with the sander? Can I get away with epoxy fairing, or should I chisel out the gudgeon, remove the rudder, and get a couple of layers of glass, over the whole thing? If there is a plate, attached to that shaft, which is sandwiched in between glass, I’d feel better about the whole thing, but it’s hard to tell.

On it, thanks! Looks like I’m ok structurally, but I might still put a layer or two, of glass, over the shaft. Not a ton of room, between rudder and hull.
