I've been appreciating your posts, Jim, although with a tinge of jealousy. I try to distract myself from that by paying attention to the details in your photos. I notice that you seem to have your leads tuned about where I do--right at the forward end of their travel. I notice also that your jib sheets are quite a bit thicker than mine are. That seems like it would be an advantage when running the genoa sheets around the winches and cleating them off.

I'm not sure if you are talking about the jib (cabin top) or genoa (toe rail) tracks and leads; I suspect it's the genoa, as you mentioned running sheets around the winches, and I only use the winches for the genoa. (My jib sheets are secured by cam cleats on the cabin house.) Unfortunately on both my jib and genoa the lead positions need to be farther forward than I am able to put them. The tops of both sails always luff before the bottoms. Ideally, the leads would run to the aft end of the track when close-hauled, and could be eased farther forward when bearing off the wind. I even had my sailmaker re-cut the jib to move the lead farther aft, but it still is too far forward for proper sail trim.

One of my wish list projects is to refinish the decks (they have those little randomly-oriented gelcoat cracks that many Cape Dories suffer from) and at the same time make the jib and genoa tracks extend farther forward.

Our sheets are much larger in diameter than are needed strength-wise. The manual calls for 5/16"—I don't recall what mine are—but the larger lines are easier on the hands.

I agree 110% with Seaweed's comments. Excellent action photos. Excellent commentary. As I read your posts and studied the photos I had a sense of being there.

It doesn't hurt that you are sailing a gorgeous Ty Weekender. I sailed a Ty for about 4 years. She was special.

Thanks to both of you for your kind words. I'm glad you are enjoying my little outings.

The Typhoon is a sweet boat in general, and I think Dory is a particularly nice Typhoon. I am very pleased to be her caretaker. My CD22 is more practical for short cruises and for when the breeze gets up, but no boat I have ever owned has been such a joy to sail as the Typhoon.
