Typhoon Senior Outboard

It's time for a new outboard for my Ty Sr.
As you likely know, this model utilizes a lazarette motor well.

I'm considering a Tohatsu 6 HP SailPro - either 20" or 25".
Probably gas, but possibly propane.

A 20" shaft has the cavitation plate of the outboard at the top of the rudder.

Any thoughts on performance of a 20" vs 25" shaft length would be very much appreciated.

Keep in mind that as soon as you start the outboard, the boat will squat down, which means the cavitation plate is now lower than the top of the rudder. There's a difference between the static and the dynamic condition. The dynamic condition is hard to predict, but it is real. Sorry to complicate matters.

I am in the process of selling my 25-inch Tohatsu gas-powered Sailpro and replacing it with a 20-inch propane version. I never had a good relationship with my gas Sailpro, primarily because I didn't use it enough. The propane outboard will be much cleaner, and I will not have to deal with issues related to ethanol in the gas. I don't think the loss of five inches in depth will make much of a difference in performance, but I do expect the shorter shaft will be easier to get in and out of the well.
