I took this photo on 6/30/18 a couple days after leaving Bermuda for Noank. I was looking through some of my old photos a couple days ago since it was so cold outside. At first glance it seems like idyllic sailing weather. I’m creaming my way through moderate seas….what’s not to like?
The second photo shows what caught my attention. I’ve zeroed in on a pyramid shaped wave. You can see it’s much larger than those readily apparent. THIS is the reason you’ll occasionally get whacked and you simply must keep your wits about you, especially when leaving the cockpit for any reason. Pitching, yawing, or heeling unexpectedly can cause you to lose your footing. Stay harnessed in, even on the good days.
