Minor sailwork needed…recommended lofts in New England

Anyone can recommend a small, independent loft willing to do minor work on a Genoa? The majors simply want to sell you a sail (even a Neil Pryde…) and not bother with work such as replacing a sacrificial UV. I’ve heard some bad reviews of Sailcare, not their cleaning but the sailmaker work. Otherwise I’d ship it to them. I’m in Connecticut…thx.

If you are in eastern Ct. I recommend Doyle in East Greenwich, R.I.. Tim replaced the UV cover on my staysail and did minor repairs to my mainsail a year ago. Dropped off in November and picked up in the last week of December. Nice work and fast turn around.
Three of my independent sailmakers have ceased operations over the years, very disconcerting.

Thurston Sails in Bristol R.I. is excellent. They are affiliated with Quantum but it has been owned and operated by the Thurston family for many years. Recently saved my 150 Genoa by cutting it down to a 130 and did a beautiful job for a reasonable price. Will enable me to get a couple of more years out of the sail and it sets beautifully. And didn't try to sell me a new one

I've used and highly recommend Farrar Sails in New London, Ct.. Kevin has repaired my jibs/drifter and also made me a complete set (roller furled Yankee, Staysail, Main with sail covers ) in 2017 for my beloved 1982 CD30 FAYAWAY. I couldn't be happier with anything he's done. (860)447-0382 is the only number to call. Very convenient for CT. easy and fair to deal with. He makes great sails and stands behind them.

2nd vote - Thurston in Bristol ... very active loft, full service, on Tupelo Rd in the heart of Bristol boat building area. I had issues with a small jib they built for me, but they rectified at no cost or argument. It's a great sail now. They do canvas as well. If all you need are a few stitches, thats what they will do.

Probably farther than you need to drive (take the suggestions for the CT lofts) but just dropping this here for the record of the CD fleet in Naragansett.

Not sure of your exact location but try Squeteague in Cataument MA. On the Cape a few mile south of the Bourne bridge. 508 563 three 0 eight 0. Ask for Mark or Julia and feel free to tell them you got the recommendation from me. They have done quick repairs to making a full set of sails for me including my new Asymectrical Spin and standing rigging as well.

I’ll second Keith’s recommendation of Squeteague. Mark spoke at the first CD NE Fleet meeting that Susan I attended. He’s really knowledgeable and he and Julia are good practical sailmakers. We gave them a try for our next sails. They did a great job on a our working jib and 130 genny. Mark suggested cutting down the head of the main so we could raise the boom a foot for a dodger. From the head it was a much simpler change that didn’t practically affect the sail area. It’s worked out great.
