CD28 Butterfly Hatch
Has anyone ever replaced the fixed glass in the main salon with a customer butterfly hatch?

I confess, I had to Google this one. I can see how you might want one. They are very yachty looking.

Doug Jesseman made one for his CD36 about four years ago. Perhaps he will chime in.

I seem to recall Phil Tanner also had a butterfly hatch on his CD28 SPYDER.

Re: CD28 Butterfly Hatch
I built a butterfly hatch for my CD36, replacing the hatch. I built one out of pine boards first to make sure the new hatch would fit, then built one out of cedar meranti. "Cetol light" will make it look like teak anyways. Teak was way out of my range. Another Cape Dory 36 owner has the "mold". I am sure he would send it to you. The bronze cross bars were cut by Hamilton Marine to exact length. The base unit of the hatch stays in place so you don't have to do a major refit. I would be happy to send you photos on email or texting. Lake Champlain sailors look and go "Wow", nice boat. It's all in the butterfly hatch.......

We are in the process of installing one on our CD330. I got it the exterior complete this weekend.

They tend to be leaky, beautiful, but leaky.

chiswell.....do you have drawings/plans/etc you can share?
Re: CD28 Butterfly Hatch
I have a 12 page article describing how to make a butterfly hatch. It's a PDF which can't be attached to a CDSOA post. Please send me your email address if you would like a copy.
