Chain Stopper

My latest project has to do with anchoring. The anchor, a spade, is mostly in the anchor locker because I'm on a mooring and am afraid of chafe on the mooring lines. It's a bit of a pain to thread the anchor between the bow pulpit stanchions every time I go cruising, but that's what I'm stuck with. If anyone has a suggestion how to truss up the anchor away from the mooring lines and later be easily positioned on the anchor roller, I'm listening.
Anyway, I'm hoping this home made chain stopper will help in breaking out the anchor. I've been
wrapping the chain around a cleat to do that. Not the most elegant solution. I thought about a commercial chain stopper but they're designed for a windlass, where the pull is fairly level to the deck.
This stopper will hopefully allow me to pull standing up or kneeling and then quickly
engage the chain. I figure I might be able to secure the chain on a downward arc in waves and help break
it out that way.
It's made of 1/2" fiberglass plates with a 1/4" SS face where the chain engages. The cross pin is
3/8" SS. I hope it'll be strong enough. If not, I can drill everything out to 1/2".
