I removed the exhaust elbow yesterday and found a pinhole leak in the inner cylinder, need new elbow.
My question is that very little carbon buildup in the elbow but more in the exhaust port/manifold coming out of the cylinder head. I am seeking advice on the best way to clean out this carbon without risking debris getting into the valves/cylinder?

Re: 1gm exhaust manifold carbon
I am surprised that nobody has responded to my post. Is cleaning out the exhaust manifold something that just isn’t required and nobody has done it ?
I know replacing the exhaust elbow is common and I am getting the new one tomorrow, but I did find some advice on sailnet and from yanmar service in Tampa to scrape the carbon buildup out of the manifold and use a vacuum to,remove the dust.
Wasn’t able to get it all out but did remove some carbon, the elbow had more corrosion than I first thought, more than the pinhole leak.
Please let me know if I have exhausted my posting limit, as I do,appreciate the input from, this board!

I am surprised that no one has answered, it would have been better to post that on the projects portion of the board. Fear not about a posting limit, the only limit is the number of photos in one post, which I believe is three. You can post as many groups of three as you need to explain the situation or show off your accomplishments.
