Cape Dory 30C Jib sheets and how we stow them

Post by samgoucher »

How do you stow your boat's jib sheets? The yankee cut jib makes untying them from the clew problematic. I've just been leaving them rigged and secured at the winch and am seeing some chaffing on the sheets where they rest on the shroud. Baggy wrinkles are one solution. What are the rest you doing.

We furl the Yankee and made a small "main sail" cover for the staysail. You are right about trying to fold.

I’ve never removed the sheets from any furling headsails I’ve ever had after a days (weeks, months) sail. Without the sheets in place and secured you run the risk of the sail unfurling unless you find some other means of securing the clew to the furled sail. I personally don’t care for rollers or anything else secured to my standing rigging. I like to be able to eyeball it without having to fiddle with something first. If you use a bowline to secure your sheets to the clew it’s easy to end-for-end them or otherwise vary the spot where you may be seeing some chafe. Buy them a little long and trim them by a foot every couple years.

Never thought to do this. Great idea.
