I'm considering a 25D vs. a 27. My questions are as follows:
- How much harder is it realistically to trailer-launch a CD with a 4' draft vs. a 3.5' draft?
- What percentage of ramps that would allow for launching with a 3.5' draft would not allow for a 4' draft?
- How much less safe is trailering a boat with a 4' draft (higher center of gravity) compared to a 3.5' draft?
- If you think that my desire to trailer a CD is unrealistic, what would you get instead that would give up the fewest benefits of a CD?
I've watched many others launch boats at ramps from small swing-keels to deeper full keels (up to 4'), and compared to most people it appears that I'm very good at optimizing the launching process. Currently I can leave the dock 30 minutes after arriving in the parking lot. I understand that a CD will take much longer to rig and launch, but I'm sure I'll be able to figure it out assuming sufficient ramp depth. Trailering is a requirement for me, but I'm ok with it taking a lot of engineering / welding to make it possible and several hours to rig.
I will have a vehicle that can safely tow a 12,000 lb trailer.
