Maine Sail and all:
S/V Bali Ha'i is currently on a trailer at home. I had planned to do some sea cock cleaning, etc. and getting her quickly back in Biscayne Bay. However, a personal matter has kept me from doing too much right now. It looks like S/V Bali Ha'i will be on the trailer for the next several months.
I would like to avoid battery issues like those described above.
I am considering investing in some type of simple "trickle charger" that would be super simple to install. I currently have the following battery bank:
Two (2) Delco Deep Cycle M27MF maintenance free AGM batteries installed November 2011. The website for Delco says the following for each battery "CCAmps 600; MCAmps 750; 95 amp/hrs".
For the past 5 years I have managed to keep the batteries charged by running the engine/alternator approximately 1x per week for 50 min/2,000 rpms. If possible, I would like to avoid having to do that for next several months while S/V Bali Ha'i is on the trailer.
Is there a particular brand or type of trickle charger that you would recommend for my battery bank configuration If possible I would like to avoid having to install a controller/regulator but will do so if necessary.
My preference is a non-permanent pad-type trickle charger with photo cells that operates off sunlight versus 120v AC. In this way, when S/V Bali Ha'i is back on her mooring at the sailing club I can continue to use the trickle charger.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions, advise, etc.

Re: Cheaper Odyssey Grp. 31 AGM?
Hello again,
Sorry to revisit the Odyssey AGM subject that some of you so gracioulsy helped us with some years back. We have another question:
It's time to replace our two Odyssey Grp. 31s. We recall someone mentioning a source for these expesive batteries in the mid-west that sold them a good discounts. Anyonw remember the source.
Stuck here in our little condo in New Hampshire waiting out the winter/vaccine. Much time to think about our boat on the hard over in Maine.
Hope all of you stay safe,
Jenn and Terry

LOL I was getting ready to reply with I think 10 years was quite a lot to get out of a lead acid. LOL, Dennisjen1722terry wrote:Hello again,

Re: Did we trash our batteries?
I'll just note that I'm having good luck with a pair of Trojan gp 27 AGMs in my CD 27 (4th year now). No idea how they compare $$ to Odessy - but Trojan has a respected name. I paid just under $300 ea for them.
I just use them as a single parallel 12 volt bank and they have plenty of grunt to turn over my Beta 14 - no dedicated starter battery. Instead, I carry a Noco lithium jump starter pack as an emergency backup but have never had to use it. It's simple to keep it topped off and it holds charge for ages. I'll be adding a Victronix battery monitor this winter.
I have a Xantrex charger/inverter which has <wet/gell/agm/custom> settings. Since I keep my boat on a slip, generally, the batteries have an easy time of it.
