ID This Boat

Post by John Stone »

This beat up boat appeared in the boatyard a few days ago. Interesting looking with an attractive sheer-line. Can anyone ID her make?

My best guess is an Alberg 30...

I don't think so. The Alberg 30 has a stepped cabin top, and the cove stripe logo is wrong. I think this is what the Alberg 30s cove stripe looks like: Image
Does anyone recognize that elongated tear drop logo on the cove stripe?

Take a surreptitious peek at her transom to see if she has a HIN.

There is also the slightest hint of molded in faux carvel planking.

Tim Lackey says it appears to be a highly modified Islander 32. Just looking on-line I think he is correct.

Not an Alberg, different rudder shape more like a Bruce King. The cove stripe to me says Islander but the ones I've sailed and seen with my own eyes (29, 32 and 36) had stepped coach roofs and larger windows. Maybe an Islander 34 with redone windows or a prototype?

I think “highly modified” is the operative word. Like Hal Ross did with his Spencer 35 Whisper. Chopped off the raised cabin top and converted to single level cabin trunk.

I thought Tim was in Maine. He's in North Carolina now?

That's it--the compressed teardrop cove stripe appears on Wayfarer-built Islanders.

I did not realize the Islander 32 was on death row. As I walked across the boatyard today I was stunned to see it being dragged onto a flatbed tractor trailer and bound for the boneyard. Very sad.

Looks like a big waste of a Simpson Lawrence manual windlass.
