Stay Too Short

Stay Too Short
I replaced the standing rigging on our CD27 Troika a few years ago. One the lower shrouds came up a bit short. I can tighten the shroud enough to be able to put in the cotter pins, but when I do this the shroud is a bit tighter than what I prefer. I was thinking of getting a slightly longer turnbuckle, but I have not been able to find anything online. Any suggestions?

A longer turnbuckle would work if you can find one. Finding a longer T bolt, or using a longer toggle on the chain plate side might be an option as well.

If by “I” you mean you did it yourself your penance is through....just make a new one. If you had a rigger make it just bite the bullet, have him make one the proper length and you’ll feel like a new man.

Re: Stay Too Short
I’m with Jim on this one. Do it right. Get a new shroud. We are talking a CD 27. A single shroud is not going to cost much at all.
But I have a question. Why is only one shroud too short? Is the shroud on the other side longer? If not, is the mast in straight and plumb? It’s important the rig is properly tensioned and the mast correctly aligned. Otherwise you can create stress on the mast, the boat, the rigging, or all the above.
I have been dismasted on a 29’ boat offshore. It was not a pleasant experience and not something I would recommend.

Re: Stay Too Short
I'm not sure what size pins your stays use but a toggle like this will add about an inch. This one has a 1/4" pin, other sizes are available.

Thanks for all the replies.
Re: Stay Too Short
Hello. A eye jaw toggle would be fine , just match your pin sizes, also buy a stainless steel one. This is perfectly safe , no need to replace otherwise new shroud
