Removable outboard bracket for CD22?

Post by wikakaru »

Does anyone know of a removable outboard bracket suitable for the Cape Dory 22?

I have the standard deck mounted Spartan bronze bracket on my other boat, a Typhoon (see first photo), but I think the higher freeboard of the CD22 makes that kind of bracket unusable. Also, there is too much other stuff on the aft deck of the CD 22 (lazarette lid, cleats, etc) to make the deck-mounted bracket workable.

What I'm really looking for is one like this:

The only ones I can find are made and sold in the UK, cost £140 ($170) and are out of stock.

I found this one from Duckworks. It is $86, which is more affordable, but it lacks the wooden pad which will add some $$, and I don't think it is as clean a solution as the English one:

I want to sail my CD22 without an outboard most of the time, and only want to mount it for hauling/launching the boat and the occasional cruise. I don't want an ugly outboard bracket hanging back there when I'm not using the outboard.

Any ideas, solutions, suggestions?

Thanks!

Smooth sailing,

Jim

I would think that any machine shop could make one similar to this for about the same price.

i have the Spartan bracket on my CD22. I have the ULS (25") Tohatsu.

the PO added new bracket board in order to lower the mount by about 2". it looks like a hack job, but it works. let me find a picture and i'll post...found it...

as you can see it's the most visually revolting thing ever...it's two layers of starboard with an aluminum slice of bologna in the middle, with a finely crafted set of thru bolts. it's built like a tank and would probably would repel light ammunition..

Thanks, Rick! Wow, it needed the cutout board even with the 25" shaft! For sure my outboard with a 20" shaft won't work with the Spartan bracket. Thanks for the photo!

Smooth sailing,

Jim
