Cradle for 25D

Post by Jim Westpfahl »

Would love to transport our 25D to our back yard next fall for some much needed TLC. The local transporters prefer a cradle to blocking the hull. Does anyone know of existing plans for constructing such a cradle?

Hi Jim,
We just shipped our CD 26D overseas with a company called Boat Shipping International. They supplied us with a cradle for the journey which we got to keep. Ours is in Italy, but the price for the cradle and loading the boat onto the cradle then onto a flatrack for shipping was about $850 so I know the cradle was less than that. It is not the most robust cradle in the world, but it supported the boat throughout a journey across the Atlantic. It is adjustable in width and length. The other nice part about it is that it breaks down into two reasonably small flat pieces (7' x 4') which would allow storage in a garage with minimal impact. One negative is that it only had four pads, preventing lowering individual pads for paint, etc.

Jim,
I arranged the shipment through a guy named Patrick Griffin at Boat Shipping International. He would be able to get you information on the supplier for the cradle. His email is pgriffin@boatshipping.com. I will email a couple of photos of the boat on the cradle. Unfortunately I don't have any close up shots and the cradle is now dissasembled for storage. The sides members of the cradle are angle iron and the fore and aft parts are constructed of tubular steel.
