Standard Gusher Bilge Pump on CD27
I am in the process of replacing about 90% of the hoses and lines on my new CD27.
The lines to and from the gusher pump in the cockpit are corrugated and for maximum efficiency should be smooth bore.
However before I buy replacement hose for this pump, is this pump worth throwing money at? I'm not sure of the model, but lets assume it's the stock one that would have come with the boat (if that helps anyone). Is it a functional, worthwhile part of a dewatering system? Or is it anemic under the best of circumstances?
I hope to install a respectable and thoughtfully designed bilge system in the near future. I'm questioning if this particular manual pump will be part of that system.

It is more than likely that it is a Gusher 8, a worthwhile pump. The pump is easy to rebuild. I would keep it, change the hose if you want, but keep the pump.

Hi AT,
Check the inside of the hose as some are corrugated on the outside but smooth on the inside.
Yes, the manual pump should be part of the system as it work when the electrical system is not working and can move a lot of water depending on your ability to actuate the handle.

Yes, the pump is definitely worth keeping. You can get a spare-parts kit from Defender. The pump is easy to service, but it's not that easy to reinstall, at least on the 25D. I'm not sure about your boat.

I'm dealing with the same issue with my newly acquired 1984 CD22D and what appears to be an original Whale Gusher. Defender only stocks one kit but I think it is for more recent variants. West Marine has several rebuild kits for these older pumps (see https://www.westmarine.com/search?Ntt=whale+gusher+kit. While I'd like to not deal with different mounting dimensions this year as there are more important projects, I can't see putting that much money into an old pump when the newer versions have been improved. So the only alternative is to order up a Gusher Urchin (said to be the direct replacement of what I have) or the Titan and see if it will fit.

if you already have the hoses off .. I would think rebuilding your pump would be easy enough. my boat has an urchin pump which is less than 100.00 new.

I rebuilt my a Whale Gusher with a kit about 4 years ago. Was easy and inexpensive to do. Works great.

I am happy to report that the new Gusher Urchin that I ordered fit exactly the same as the old Gusher pump.
