Towards the end of last season, after a few cumulative hours of running the engine, I began to get a sheen of diesel covering the oil pan beneath the 1982 13 HP Yanmar in my CD 27, and I could not for the life of me determine its origin. As I commissioned the boat this spring, I ran the engine vigorously, and produced a teardrop of diesel at the lowest point of the block. After feeling around the block, I arrived at the fuel transfer pump, and my fingertips came back slightly wet, and the photos I took seem to indicate this as the culprit. The replacement cost is not too steep, so I figure I'll start there, including replacing the hose back to the primary fuel filter off the fuel tank.
Has anyone here done this repair and encountered anything that I should be aware of? Seems pretty straight-forward (famous last words).
Thanks!
Steve

You may want to double check fittings and/or replace the compression washers before replacing the entire pump.

Re: Replace 2 GM Yanmar fuel transfer pump?
Good advice. They're definitely prime suspects. My thinking is that I'd hate to get the line pulled apart and put back together with new washers and cleaned fittings, re-bled and all, only to discover the leak is in the diaphragm itself, or the gasket at the block. If I'm committing that much time and effort, feels like the $75 for the entire assembly is worth it, if I only need to get in there once.
