Building a nesting tender for Fayaway

Don't forget to snap some photos while you work on that boat project, then share them here.

Good job. Measure twice. Then measure twice again. Then cut once. LOL.

There was some apprehension in taking the saw to the boat but luckily the design makes it hard to screw up too badly. The cut is made between the two nesting bulkheads which are separated by cardboard spacers to make a slot for the saw. Still managed to have some runout but nothing some epoxy won't fix.

I cut the hole for a Whale TC4 access hatch. This particular hatch came on the recommendation of another designer, Paul Gartside, who claims its the only truly watertight hatch of its kind. He used it on his design number 226A which I'm eyeing for a future build. I Installed the forward tank top and made up the center seat.

I'm trying to get her done for a trip in June so I'm moving as fast as I can! I'm going back to work tomorrow so I'm going to lose a lot of boat building time. At this point she's structurally complete, I added the aft thwart, the quarter knees and the keel and the deadwood. Now it's epoxying and then sanding and painting. I still have to build the rudder, daggerboard and mast but that will wait until after our trip.

Just wondering if the final fitting out was completed. The project looked great to this point.

Hi Jim, thanks for checking in. Work slowed to a near halt over the summer, after I laid on three coats of epoxy and starting filling and fairing. I finally built up some momentum again around December and as it happens I've just received the paint and related supplies. There were quite a few Sundays spent with a long board and orbital sander, but I persevered and final fitting out is just around the corner. Once she's primed (hopefully tonight or tomorrow) I'll post some new photos. I'm very motivated to clear my basement shop so I can move onto the carpentry side of my chainplate and bowsprit replacement project.

Got the first coat of primer on today. I have to say I'm pleased as can be with how fair the hull is. Aside from the odd pinhole and what appears to be a minor void in the plywood it will need almost no additional filling before finishing. All those hours of sanding paid off in a big way.
