Rust on Stainless Steel.

Rust on Stainless Steel.
I have noticed rust developing on turnbuckles, cables and other parts, and went looking for a rust removal product. I have some Naval Jelly, but it warms not to use it on Stainless. I found a product called Bar Keeper's Friend that comes in a powder containing oxalic acid. I bought a can at the grocery store for about $3. I sprinkled it on a wet cloth, rubbed it on and brushed in spots like threads where the cloth wouldn't get into. I rinsed it off after a minute or so and found that it really worked great. Not expecting much, I didn't take before and after pictures. Turns out this is a cheap and easy solution, and I really like cheap and easy.

Thanks Bernie! I'll have to give that a try on KAYLA. I've used Never Dull in the past but that's far from easy...

You can also buy 99% Oxalic Acid in bulk for bigger jobs. 2lbs for about $15 on Amazon. (even cheaper in larger quantities) It also works for bleaching teak and removing topside stains. You mix it about 4oz to a gallon of hot water. Wear gloves and eye protection!

I have have very good luck with “Magica Rust Remover Gel”. It was was recommended by a couple charter boat skippers during my first trip to the Caribbean. You can also use it on paint and plastic/delrin if you get a rust streak on it.

Re: Rust on Stainless Steel.
I have had great success using Collinite Metal Wax No. 850.
It removes superficial rust from stainless with little effort.
It also leaves a protective film that last a good while.
I use it at the beginning of each season.

There is no better buy than BKF. I always have some on board and also under my kitchen sink. A very different product than clorox / detergent based mild cleaners. How did it get its name? No clue.

Re: Rust on Stainless Steel.
I second Dick K.'s recommendation of Bar Keeper's Friend. I use it all over the house and all over S/V Bali Ha'i. It works great, does not cause any damage to material and is easy to clean up. It is a great product and, by comparison to other so-called "marine cleaners", etc., it's cheap.
