Those of you with a 27, where is the discharge hose for the icebox drain. I've been in the bilge in that area and haven't found it yet.
I'll look again next time I'm at the boat but guidance would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: CD 27 Icebox drain location.
On Raven, it makes a dip and then empties into the engine pan. The dip is to form a trap where some nasty water remains to help keep the cold air from draining out. The discharge into the pan must have been meant to keep the melt water out of the bilge.
I try to keep the icebox free of water. I always start a trip with frozen milk jugs from home. After they thaw, I can use the water and then crush them down to save space. When I pick up additional ice, along the way, it always goes into a dry bag. This keeps all the water contained and out of the ice box. These measures basically eliminate the need for a drain. It would be foolish to remove it but I use a foam plug to seal it up when in use. This keeps the cold in much better than a dip in the drain hose and things stay much nicer in the ice box, Steve.

Hi Walter
On my boat the ice box drain looks like a little scupper placed in the forward/onboard corner of the box. Plain as the nose on your face. It does not have a water lock reported by Steve. Just goes straight down I think. I never thought about cold air escaping. A 3/4 inch water hose runs from an exterior barb down into the bilge. I don’t worry about water there. Just always assumed that was the way it came from the factory - right ? Just run the electric pump occasionally - usually every time I board the boat when I check the bilge. I’m religious about that. Oil, coolant, bilge, bank voltage. Like a pilot.
I suppose I could get a longer length of hose and just put a loop in it and that would form a water lock. Hmmm
Once a nearly full can of condensed milk toppled in the box and the bilge turned into a pretty impressive science experiment. A small amount of Clorox and flushing it out took care of that no problem. Really the main reason to have the little electric pump is to keep after ice melt. Plus it’s really the only way to drain the water tank - pull water line to the sink pump and drain into the bilge while the bilge pump cycles.

Re: CD 27 Icebox drain location.
Hi Fred and Steve,
Been painting the bilge (almost done ) and tracing/ replacing hoses as I go. I can only see part way up under the ice box. I'll have to try a better angle, better light, and a long stick to see/reach up under there. It doesn't drain to the engine drip pan, and I'll be surprised if there is enough room for a cold saving loop.
Thanks

Re: CD 27 Icebox drain location.
Take a good look around the area. Mine is a 1/2 or 3/4" clear reinforced hose. It will be the only hose that goes nowhere or is not attached to anything. If you pour some water into the ice box, it might be easier to find, Steve.
