I'm still trying to get out every weekend. This anchorage was amazingly calm. Just past the point on the right it was blowing 20-30 and swell was building. . Another boat moved over and let me squeeze in. He also helped me set the stern anchor. After he left I reversed it so the wind wasn't blowing in the companionway. I only set it like that because that's the way he had it. Maybe for a quick exit. I got caught in a small cove once before called Potato harbor and the wind came up in the pitch black of night no moon or stars. I could barely see the bow of the boat. It would have been a disaster if I had bow into the shore. I still don't have the windvane dialed in perfect yet. I'm working on the water tanks. I found two broken fittings. I suspected that cuz I kept finding small amounts of water by the tank above the liner. I've read other posts of the fittings breaking. It's funny why they break like that. They don't get any work or movement on them. I'm also stocking the boat with dry goods in case the gov't tries to confine me to house arrest. I wonder what will happen if /when I get behind in my slip fees. There are a few places to anchor for some period of time like Santa Barbara but I dread the thought of having to dinghy to shore everyday. It's not bad when your just visiting a new port but living on anchor sucks. I did it at Keehi lagoon at Oahu for 5 years in the early 1990's. Here's a photo the neighbor took. A lot of folks really like taking photos of this boat.

Outstanding John. That’s a lovely photo. You are really getting a lot out of your sailing dollars. People that have not sailed or spent time on the water in SOCAL don’t know how cold it can get there even though the air temp is 70°F. The water is cold year round.

It’s a great place to sail pretty much year round. Too bad it’s so expensive there. If money were no object I’d love to have a home on Coronado and my boat on a mooring. Alas....

I don't really notice how expensive it is because I've been here most of my life except Alaska and Hawaii which seemed more expensive. I love swimming in the summer. The water temp is between 65 and 70. I didn't like the warm water in Hawaii. It's barely refreshing after a hard days work.

You are right. It’s all according to what you’re used to. I think the colder salt water smells better. No doubt about it. More briney. Warm salt water doesn’t smell the same. And I got use to the colder water when I was there. But let me tell ya, for me, there is nothing like swimming off the boat in the Caribbean in 80° water with 100+ feet of visibility.

But the wide open vista of California and the magnificent coast line is visually spectacular. I think Maine has the same visual feel, to me, but of course the sailing season is only five or so months then you are hammered with winter. All that said, I’d live in SOCAL if I could live there as well as I do here.
