Recommendations for Mooring or Slip Locations in Westport MA
I am looking for a mooring in the Westport MA area, although I will also consider a slip if it is reasonably priced. Ideally I need a location that can crane the mast up and launch via a travel lift off the trailer, although it does have an older trailer that I could dunk a couple of times a year instead if I had to (but would still need to crane the mast up). Does anyone familiar with this area have any recommendations that I should check out or avoid?

Personally I would avoid Westport Harbor itself. We moored there one night as we transported our CD 25 from Barrington to Marion. It's a long way from sailable waters into the harbor, and you have to follow a long circuitous channel to get into the inner harbor itself. There are rocks and bars to watch out for, and the wind and tides can be strong. Sailing off your mooring would be nearly impossible, and a strong motor would needed to get in and out in a reasonable amount of time. I don't recall seeing any slips there, but you could contact Tripp Marine and ask them. We rented a mooring from them, and they were both helpful and reasonable.
I hesitate to post this reply because everyone has different perspectives on things. You may find you like Westport and the entrance is not a problem for you. The best way to find out is to give it a try for a couple of nights.

Pretty much the only game in town is Tripp Marine. Lucky for you, it's also one of the finest yards available anywhere. Excellent service, attitude, and ability. Price-wise, maybe a different story, but that's just the situation in that part of the world.NarragansettSailor wrote:I am looking for a mooring in the Westport MA area, although I will also consider a slip if it is reasonably priced.
