Shut down
Flag Harbor Condo Assn. in southern MD. sent all slip owners notification as a result of the pleasure boat ban on the Chesapeake Bay. The office is closed, water turned off at the docks, the bathrooms are locked and any liveaboards are banned. Flag Harbor Marine Service (FHMS) is also closed. I emailed the FHMS operator to see if we are allowed to check on our boats stored at the yard. This COVID19 stuff is really serious

Re: Shut down
I saw this article on Sailing Scuttlebutt: https://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/2020 ... -maryland/
It's pretty stupid when one considers that there are few places more isolated from other people than aboard a boat out on the water.
It really bothers me that the liveaboard boaters at your marina have been locked out of their homes. I lived aboard for 14 years, and I have seen this kind of idiocy repeated over and over in many different contexts. It's not just a COVID-19 thing. It's everywhere, all the time. Hopefully this particular bit of idiocy won't last long and these people will be allowed to return to their homes soon.

Re: Shut down
When I think of boating on the Chesapeake (or most other places), I don't envision hundreds of single-handed sailors, gliding about well separated from each other. I see hundreds of powerboats, packed with friends who drove together to the launching ramp, stopping along the way to buy food, gas and beer, spreading coronavirus all day long. It's a bit early in this crisis to be making fine distinctions between different types of boaters.
British Columbia has not banned boating, but they have closed the border, so we can't even get to our boat.

Re: Shut down
The problem is not out on the water. The problem is in the marina it self. I know from talking to John Little, the owner of Flag Harbor Marine Service is that people are ignoring keeping their distance. I told John he should put up a "NO TREASPASSING" sign while the shut down is in effect and go home.
Re: Shut down
It is interesting to see the responses of different countries.
Sweden is still taking a laissez faire approach: https://www.institutmontaigne.org/en/bl ... own-sweden
...while The Philippines' president Duterte is threatening to shoot quarantine violators. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/as ... s-12601384
In any case, I hope this is all over soon.

Re: Shut down
yes it is .. seriously obnoxious. why would they turn the water off if people have already paid for the service? same with the bathrooms. why make something worse that is already bad enough? weird.moctrams wrote:This COVID19 stuff is really serious
