S Number

Post by casampson »

There is a website I enjoy called Sailboatdata.com (see below link). It has data on just about every boat ever built, and I find it interesting to do comparisons on different boats. My own boat, the Cape Dory 25, has good numbers in just about every way except for "Comfort Ratio," which is not surprising given its size and displacement. One calculation, however, is called "S Number" and I have no idea what it is. I've googled it several times and found nothing conclusive. Does anyone know what this mysterious number signifies? Thanks!

Under the category “sailboat calculations” you will find “definitions”. It is a hyperlink. This photo shows the definition of the “S#”.

I've looked at that website a hundred times and never noticed that link. Thanks for pointing it out.
