Looks fabulous Jeff. They do look best with a slight taper.

Re: CD30 Bowsprit
Good work. What are you using for a brush?
Re: CD30 Bowsprit
Thanks Jim! Sorry I missed talking with you last weekend. It would have been good to catch up post Bermuda.
John, I use the small foam rollers from Jamestown, Copenhagen Prof, Schuimroller. Then tip with foam brushes, the good ones from Poly Brush. I do own a good badger brush from Epifanes that lives in kerosene but it's too high-maintenance. If I have something that the roller can't handle I'll break out the badger brush but so far, so good.
I'm thinking another 14 days of varnish in my kitchen before the boatyard gets to take back over. They said she'd be in the shed as soon as the bowsprit was done. Hoping CC is all back to normal for an early May launch!

Re: CD30 Bowsprit
Jeff, your approach is similar to mine except I rarely use rollers anymore. I tried them on large pieces but has than satisfactory results. I either got too much or too little varnish and spent too long tipping out bubbles, etc. I tend to use 2” and 3” Jen Poly foam brushes exclusively and found if I work quickly I have better control and better results. I also didn’t waste as much varnish.jbenagh wrote:Thanks Jim! Sorry I missed talking with you last weekend. It would have been good to catch up post Bermuda.

You’ve done some nice work there. I agree the taper looks better, to my eye anyway.
Re: CD30 Bowsprit
John, I did have trouble with bubbles with the thin foam filters from West. These new ones have been great and I think I use about exactly the same amount of varnish as brushing just it's much faster.
I do like those Poly Brush foam brushes. I still tip if with them after rolling. I think I buy one box of 2in and half a box of 3 in every season.
