When I did my rudder shaft it was the first time I replaced packing from scratch. I was surprised how little thread there was to engage! I was really careful to push down so I would engage the threads and not damage them. That was one of the most scary parts of that whole project.

Posting finishing pics of everything back together. Was a fun project, and I now feel like I’m qualified as a Cirque du Soleil contortionist after squeezing in the rear lazarette / hanging upside down all day
