Does anyone have any actual experiences comparing the Fortress (lightweight) anchors with the equivalent Danforths?
On our CD27, we have a Danforth 12H and a Danforth 20S - I'm considering getting a Fortress FX16 as the main anchor - they sure are lighter than Danforths, but anyone have any comments regarding relative merits?
Thanks for any input, and Happy Sailing!

Re: FORTRESS ANCHOR COMPARISONS?
A friend was using a Fortress for his Tartan 34 and has replaced it with a Delta. The problem he had was if the anchor came loose it did not have enough weight to reset itself. He would have to haul it up and start the anchoring process from the beginning. I have a CQR on my CD30 and love it.

Re: FORTRESS ANCHOR COMPARISONS?
Tern (CD30 mkII) came with a fortress (dont remember which one but it was pretty big) and a 35# Bruce. After many anchoring experiences I took apart the Fortress and put it in the locker as a spare. It came lose a couple of times in really nasty wind current situations. The Bruce has always worked beautifully. There does not seem to be a substitute for weight.yves feder W1UX wrote: Does anyone have any actual experiences comparing the Fortress (lightweight) anchors with the equivalent Danforths?

Re: FORTRESS ANCHOR COMPARISONS?
I have a CD-28 here in Texas (Lake Texoma) and have both a Danforth and FX-16 which I use as a primary
because it is much lighter (especially after 25 ft of chain is attached). I have been very pleased with it and feel
it performs as well as a similar sized Danforth with less weight. Most of the bottoms are sand (which
both anchors like equally) and occassionally soft mud where neither of them works very well. Since I usually set both
overnight, I can't speak to the ability to reset itself with confidence but feel they are basically equivalent with
the weight advantage going to the fortress. It is also easier to get the mud off because the aluminium surface is
smoother.
